Shanghai Noir is a Clue-inspired voice game wholly based on Amazon Echo and developed on Amazon Developer Console (ADS). It explores a detective navigating through different suspects, murder weapons, and motives. The Choose-Your-Own-Story aspects were developed on Twine, with each playthrough having the murder weapons, suspects, and motives completely randomized with various endings based on the combinations. Gen AI generated each prompt for more variations.

I’ve always enjoyed reading murder mysteries since discovering Agatha Christie’s works. I was reading through that time and was inspired by accidentally finding Skyrim on Amazon Echo. Although this probably won’t be the “next-gen” platform for video games, exploring new interactive methods for a more technologically adaptive generation is extremely interesting.
