NYU Stern Business of Media - Gaming Industry Analysis
FINISHED PROJECT
In the fall semester of my junior year, I took a course called Business of Media. The course provides an in-depth examination of the core economic traits and various business models and practices that characterize the media industries. I chose to examine the gaming industry. Our final goal is to provide a thorough profile and analysis of one media sector, with a summary of the fundamental economic indicators, a review of the standard business models, and an analysis of the most important firms, new firms, and current and emerging trends. The requirements by our professor, Ted Magder, were professional and ensured our reports were similar in quality to analytics accounts of platforms such as NewZoo, Deloitte, Statista, etc.
Responsibilities:
Examined total revenue figures for the sector, both for the US and the Global market.
Analyzed primary sources of revenue, costs, demographic data on users, and expenses in the sector (i.e., advertising, subscription, direct sale, etc.) from Statista, Media Reports (i.e., NewZoo, IBIS World, Insider Intelligence, PwC, etc.)
Created and analyzed a list of the top 5 companies in terms of revenue and market share in the US and globally from 2017 to 2022.
Further analyzed 3 companies through investigating their 10Ks & 20Fs.
Gathered company press releases and trade reports to identify individual priorities, strategies, and recent initiatives.
Researched, wrote, and analyzed industry trends using trade publications and data analysis.
